Cataract surgery removes the eye’s cloudy natural lens and replaces it with a clear artificial lens called an intraocular lens (IOL). Modern small-incision techniques use ultrasound (phacoemulsification) and, in select cases, laser assistance to gently break up and remove the cataract through a tiny opening — usually in about 10 to 15 minutes per eye.

    Dr. Ozerov reviews your visual goals — distance, reading, hobbies, screen work, and astigmatism — and helps you choose the right IOL: monofocal, toric, multifocal, or extended depth of focus.

  3. Advanced Cataract Surgery

    Surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure with topical or mild sedation. A small incision allows the cloudy lens to be gently removed and replaced with your chosen IOL.

How is cataract surgery performed?
Modern cataract surgery uses a tiny incision and ultrasound energy (phacoemulsification) to gently break up the cloudy lens. The lens material is removed and replaced with a clear artificial intraocular lens. In select cases, laser assistance is used for parts of the procedure.
Is cataract surgery safe?

How long does the procedure take?

Will I be awake during surgery?
Yes. Cataract surgery is performed under topical anesthesia with mild sedation, so you’ll be relaxed and comfortable but awake. You won’t see the details of the procedure and most patients describe it as easy.
What is recovery like?
Most patients notice clearer vision within 24 to 48 hours. You’ll use prescription eye drops for a few weeks and avoid heavy lifting, swimming, and eye rubbing during initial healing. Most normal activities can resume within a day or two.
Which lens is right for me?
Lens choice depends on your visual goals and lifestyle. Monofocal lenses offer excellent distance vision (reading glasses still needed), toric lenses correct astigmatism, and multifocal or extended depth of focus lenses provide vision at multiple distances. Dr. Ozerov will guide you to the right choice.
Will I still need glasses after surgery?
It depends on your lens choice. Patients with monofocal lenses typically need reading glasses. Patients with premium toric, multifocal, or extended depth of focus IOLs often reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses.
