A vigilant approach to protecting your optic nerve.

Miami Eye Institute, led by Dr. Inna Ozerov, provides comprehensive diagnosis and management of glaucoma — a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve and are a leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide.

Glaucoma often progresses without symptoms in its early stages, gradually narrowing peripheral vision before patients ever notice a change. That’s why it’s often called “the silent thief of sight.” Elevated intraocular pressure is a key risk factor, but glaucoma can also occur with normal pressures.

Our team uses advanced imaging, visual field testing, and pressure monitoring to detect glaucoma early and slow or stop its progression with medications, laser therapy, or surgical referrals. Miami Eye Institute proudly serves patients in Hollywood, Florida, Miami, Florida, Fort Lauderdale, Pembroke Pines, Hallandale Beach, Aventura, Davie, Miramar, Cooper City, Weston, Plantation, and surrounding South Florida communities.

OUR APPROACH

How we detect and manage glaucoma.

Glaucoma management is a long-term partnership. Our process combines early detection, careful monitoring, and treatment designed to stabilize vision over decades.

  1. Comprehensive Glaucoma Exam

We measure intraocular pressure, examine the optic nerve, assess the drainage angle, and review your medical and family history.

  2. Advanced Imaging & Visual Field Testing

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) of the optic nerve and computerized visual field testing reveal subtle changes long before they become noticeable.

  3. Personalized Treatment Plan

Treatment may include prescription eye drops, oral medications, laser procedures (such as SLT), or coordinated surgical referrals depending on disease severity.

  4. Lifelong Monitoring

Glaucoma is a chronic disease. We monitor your eyes regularly with imaging and testing to ensure your treatment is keeping the disease stable.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common questions about glaucoma.

Glaucoma is a lifelong condition, and understanding it helps you protect your sight. Here are answers to the questions patients ask most.

What is glaucoma?
Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve — the nerve that carries visual information from your eye to your brain. The damage is most often associated with elevated pressure inside the eye, but it can also occur with normal pressures.
What are the types of glaucoma?
The two main types are open-angle glaucoma (the most common, slow-progressing form) and angle-closure glaucoma (less common but can cause sudden, severe symptoms). Other types include normal-tension, secondary, and congenital glaucoma.
What are the symptoms?
Open-angle glaucoma usually has no symptoms until significant peripheral vision loss has occurred. Angle-closure glaucoma can cause sudden eye pain, headache, nausea, blurred vision, halos, and redness — a true eye emergency.
Who is at risk for glaucoma?
Risk factors include age over 40, family history, African or Hispanic ancestry, high eye pressure, thin corneas, diabetes, severe nearsightedness or farsightedness, and prior eye trauma or steroid use.
How is glaucoma diagnosed?
Diagnosis requires a comprehensive exam including eye pressure measurement, optic nerve evaluation, drainage angle assessment, visual field testing, and OCT imaging of the optic nerve.
How is glaucoma treated?
Treatment is aimed at lowering eye pressure and preserving vision. Options include daily eye drops, laser procedures like selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), and various surgical procedures for more advanced cases.
Can glaucoma be cured?
Glaucoma cannot be cured, but with early detection and consistent treatment, the disease can almost always be slowed or stabilized. Patients across Hollywood, Florida, Miami, Florida, Pembroke Pines, Davie, and surrounding communities rely on Dr. Ozerov for ongoing glaucoma care.
